DIY During Covid-19
So, is anyone out there doing any home renovations during this worldwide pandemic?
We were wondering if home renovations were on the uptick with so many people stuck inside their homes. You know, looking at their tired walls and all those projects they swore they’d get to if only they had the time. Suddenly, overnight it seemed, we all have the time.
We did some research into it and it turns out, according to Grant Farnsworth, Director of Business Strategy at The Farnsworth Group and Zach Williams, CEO & Founder at Venveo, google searches for home improvement products and ideas have definitely gone way up.
They say that there was 150% increase in search terms related to Home Depot and 195% for Lowes for the end of March and beginning of April. Wow!
The break-down is interesting too. 700% increase in paint searches! I guess those walls are really getting to you.
Doing google searches is one thing, but doing the actual work is another thing. For us, we are experiencing some difficulty in getting the products we want.
For example, we are building a privacy fence on one side of our yard. We decided on a coloured corrugated metal for the lower portion. We placed the order for the metal 3 1/2 weeks ago and we’re still waiting.
As the weather gets better, many people are focusing on outdoor projects like landscaping and gardening. Again, supply issues are cropping up. My local gardening store was really low on seed packages.
Delays in distribution is a problem, Amazon customer service is at an all-time low, but we are also learning to sidestep these issues quite well. We all have to plan ahead, not as many spontaneous purchases, and that may even save us some money in the long run.
How You Do’in?
I’m sure there are a lot of interesting stories of DIYer’s struggles and triumphs during this time of COVID-19. If you have one, please share in the comments. We’d love to know how you’re coping.
